Dead Tank Circuit Breakers: (Up to 550 KV)

A dead tank circuit breaker is a type of circuit breaker in which the switching unit is housed within a metal container maintained at ground potential. The breaker or interrupter unit, comprising fixed and moving contacts, an arc quenching medium (SF6 gas)

Components:

• Interrupter Unit: Fixed and moving contacts, arc-quenching medium (SF6 gas), etc., placed inside a metal tank.
• Design: The metal tank is earthed.

Advantages:

• Provides necessary insulation (requires more SF6 gas).
• Less prone to earthquakes.

Applications:

• Dead tank circuit breakers are commonly used in high-voltage applications.
